Hemophilia, Bleeding Disorders, and Thrombosis Program

About our Program

Our Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC) and the Hemophilia, Bleeding Disorders and Thrombosis Program are committed to making a profound difference in the lives of those affected by hemophilia, bleeding and thrombotic disorders.

At Children’s Hospital New Orleans, we understand that hemophilia, bleeding and thrombotic disorders are not merely medical conditions – they are life-altering challenges that require comprehensive care. These serious, chronic, and lifelong conditions can disrupt education, hinder daily activities, cause pain, and, in some cases, even lead to potential disabilities, all of which can significantly impact overall quality of life.

Our mission is clear: accurate and prompt diagnosis, optimal management, and effective treatment of these conditions. We go beyond the medical aspect. We believe in a family-centered care model, ensuring our patients and their families receive the support and guidance needed to navigate the complexities of these disorders.

Education of our patients and their families about their diagnosis is a priority to our team of experts. Learning about their disease improves knowledge and helps them develop the skills needed to cope with their disorder and to live active and fulfilling lives. We closely collaborate with the Louisiana Hemophilia Foundation (LHF) and the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation (NBDF) to ensure the highest quality of treatment and care.

Our expert team is comprised of pediatric hematologists, a dedicated nurse educator and navigator, a research nurse, social services professionals, physical therapists, pediatric dental care specialists, a clinical pharmacist, genetic counselors, pediatric orthopedic specialists and various other specialists available through referral. This comprehensive approach to care is designed to address all aspects of your child’s health and well-being.

We are here to provide more than just treatment; we are here to provide hope, support, and a brighter future. Welcome to a program that understands, cares, and is committed to improving lives.

What Makes us Different?

Children’s Hospital New Orleans is the only free-standing children’s hospital in Louisiana and southern Mississippi with a federally recognized Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC). The Hemophilia, Bleeding Disorders and Thrombosis Program provides comprehensive, multi-specialty care to children, adolescents and young adults with all types of bleeding and clotting disorders. The HTC at Children’s Hospital New Orleans is affiliated with the American Thrombosis and Hemostasis Network (ATHN) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and actively participates in several industry-sponsored trials through our Clinical Trials Center with the goal of bringing the most advanced and up-to-date treatments to our patients.

Our commitment to patient care goes far beyond the treatment of illness. We are committed to nurturing the development of our young patients, supporting them in their journey towards adulthood and helping them thrive in every aspect of their life. We are recognized for our dedication to helping patients and their families during transition of care, and we provide robust support and assistance to ensure uninterrupted treatment as our pediatric patients grow into adults. Above all, our top priority is to ensure the delivery of compassionate, safe, expert care.
