Children's Hospital, New Orleans

The Miracle League of Greater New Orleans
More than 100 children with mental and/or physical challenges are able to enjoy playing baseball and soccer in an organized little league. A partnership between Children’s Hospital and Audubon Nature Institute, The Miracle League of Greater New Orleans provides challenged children an opportunity to get out in the sunshine and play baseball in an organized league complete with teams, uniforms and a field designed to accommodate special athletes age 6 to 21.

Players are paired with an able-bodied volunteer "buddy” who assists them. As the children play, their self esteem grows, they make friends, become less isolated and just become regular kids – not a kid with a disability.
