Children’s Hospital, Touro finalize new hospital system

President & CEO Appointed to Lead Touro

NEW ORLEANS – Children’s Hospital and Touro finalized their partnership agreement at a formal closing July 13 at 3 p.m.  The hospitals announced the formation of a new, two hospital, non-profit hospital system earlier this year.  Today’s closing legally finalized the partnership agreement following the approval of state and federal government agencies.

Children’s Hospital’s parent corporation, Louisiana Children’s Medical Center (LCMC), is the common parent corporation that will govern Touro and Children's Hospital. Steve Worley, president & CEO of Children’s Hospital for more than 23 years and also president & CEO of LCMC since its inception in 1997, will head the newly created system.

LCMC, in conjunction with the Governing Boards of Touro and Children’s Hospital, have selected a president and chief executive officer to lead Touro, James T. Montgomery, FACHE.

Mr. Montgomery, a healthcare executive with more than 30 years experience, has an extensive background in hospital management in a variety of hospital settings including non-profit, for profit and academic facilities.

He served as Chief Executive Officer at Corpus Christi Medical Center, a healthcare system owned by the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), since September 2007 where he led a group of four hospitals. Prior to his work in Texas, Mr. Montgomery served as CEO of Tulane University Hospital & Clinic for seven years and played an integral role in leading the organization’s post-Katrina recovery efforts. He has worked in a variety of hospital settings, including non-profit, for profit and academic hospitals throughout Louisiana. He has also served as President and CEO of the Central Louisiana Healthcare Partnership, a for-profit joint venture between the Rapides Foundation and HCA, and President and CEO of Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria.

“This new hospital system brings together two organizations with tremendous strengths who share an inspiring dedication to service.  Mr. Montgomery’s leadership at Touro will help strengthen and enhance the array of healthcare services this new system offers and will continue to advance Touro’s community-focused mission,” says Steve Worley, president and CEO of LCMC and Children’s Hospital.

“Mr. Montgomery is a seasoned healthcare executive who brings a wealth of experience and an in-depth understanding of the New Orleans community, the Louisiana healthcare market and the challenges hospitals face in a post-Katrina environment,” says Allan Bissinger, chairman, Touro Governing Board.

“Touro is a hospital with a rich history and an important legacy of serving New Orleans. I am excited to be a part of this tradition of community service and to join this new system that brings together two hospitals known for excellence and quality care. I also look forward to returning home to Louisiana,” says James T. Montgomery, incoming Touro president and CEO.
