CARE Medical Clinic
In 1985 Children’s Hospital New Orleans first established a child abuse program to provide medical care to child victims at no cost to families. The CARE Center and Child Advocacy Center have grown exponentially since that time – housing a variety of services including medical evaluations, forensic interviewing, trauma therapy and case management. The Morgan Rae Center for Hope starts an exciting new chapter for the Care Center to serve even more children.
The Morgan Rae Center for Hope
The beautiful, expanded 4,400 square foot facility helps foster the dignity, privacy and comfort that this incredibly vulnerable patient population deserves, along with state-of-the-art technology and design features that allow for best practices in patient care. The center includes a spacious reception area with four sound-proof consultation rooms, three medical exam rooms, one procedure room, a dedicated forensic interview suite with adjacent observation rooms, two medical interview rooms, a multidisciplinary touchdown space for law enforcement partners, and ample office space for the growing team of experts. The property also includes a spacious playground made possible through a generous donation from Panda Cares.
Medical providers trained to identify child abuse
The specially trained physicians and nurse practitioners at the Morgan Rae Center for Hope provide medical evaluations to more than 1,000 children a year from across Louisiana and southern Mississippi. These medical providers aid in the proper recognition of child abuse, including child physical abuse, child sexual abuse, and child neglect.
A safe place for children
The Morgan Rae Center for Hope is home to specialized staff to assist with the comprehensive management of possible child abuse. Trained nurses assist the medical providers in reassuring the child and family that the medical exam is not painful. A case manager with special training in victim assistance and coordination of care, provides resources and information for each family.
Educating the community
The Morgan Rae Center for Hope provides evidence-informed presentations to community medical providers and medical trainees as well as multidisciplinary community partners on topics including child abuse recognition and findings.
