COVID-19 Vaccine for Children 5-11

Kids ages 6 months through 5 years are now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine!

On Friday, June 17, the FDA granted Emergency Use Authorization for both Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccines for young children, ages 6 months and older.

For the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine, the FDA amended the emergency use authorization (EUA) to include use of the vaccine in individuals 6 months through 17 years of age. The vaccine had been authorized for use in adults 18 years of age and older.

For the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, the FDA amended the EUA to include use of the vaccine in individuals 6 months through 4 years of age. The vaccine had been authorized for use in individuals 5 years of age and older.

This is an important step in our fight against COVID-19 and will provide important protection for our youngest Americans.

Booster shots are also now recommended for children ages 5+

Children ages 5-11 should receive a booster dose five months after completing the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination series. For individual 12 to 17 years old, the Pfizer vaccine is available five months after completing the initial vaccine series. Learn more about booster recommendations for kids and teens.
