Meet John Schoest, King of the Krewe of Extraordinary

High school senior, John Schouest, was at the peak of his cross-country glory when he started to notice small changes in his movements. Days later, this star athlete was on a rapid decline, leading to respiratory failure and admittance to the pediatric intensive care unit at Children’s Hospital. A series of tests confirmed that John had Guillain Barre syndrome, more specifically, CIDP, a chronic form of this rare neurological disorder that paralyzed his nerves.

Once on the right treatment path, John slowly and diligently pushed through months of rehabilitation to make an extraordinary recovery. Faced with the prospect of never walking again, this King of the Krewe of Extraordinary outpaced his prognosis and walked down the aisle at his sister’s wedding days after leaving the hospital.
