When seven-year-old John David Malinski was born to parents Christel and John, doctors told the parents that at some point in his life, John David would need a kidney transplant. After he developed a startling fever, and was diagnosed with urosepsis, a bladder infection that spread to his kidneys and into his bloodstream, his providers at Children's Hospital knew the time had come for the kidney transplant. Already knowing she was a match, and having already gone through organ donor registration procedures, Christel was ready to give one of her kidneys to her son.
