Hurricane Ida Recovery and Support

Friends of Children's Hospital,

As Louisiana begins to rebuild in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, I want you to know that we have been thinking about you – our donors, volunteers, corporate partners, and friends. We have been thinking about your families, your homes, and your businesses. Your Children’s Hospital New Orleans family offers our sincerest hope that you are safe and well.

We know that our community is resilient, and we will get through this time the only way we know how – together.

I know how deeply you care for the children we treat and want to share that, thanks to our heroic team of caregivers and staff who worked around the clock and slept for days in our facility, patient care was uninterrupted during and after the storm. While we had a few leaks, our hospital fared well.

As power is restored across Louisiana and we begin to rebuild, we know our region has a long road ahead to recovery. Our promise is to continue to provide access to the best care for critically ill children and their families in Louisiana and beyond, regardless of their family’s ability to pay for treatment, and even in the midst of the ongoing global pandemic.

Children’s Hospital is working diligently to support our patient families and our staff members who have been directly affected by Hurricane Ida. Many have had damage to their homes and businesses, even more can’t come back to the city because of power and water outages. We are standing in the gap to help. Children’s Hospital is working to provide temporary housing for our staff, find childcare and pet care resources, as well as fuel while we wait for services to return to normal.

We have set up special Employee Crisis and Patient Assistance Funds to alleviate some of the burdens Hurricane Ida has presented. If you would like more information or to support one of these funds, visit chnola.org/IdaSupport.
