January is National Blood Donor Month. This month was chosen to raise awareness for blood donation for a reason - because blood supplies are generally at their lowest during the month of January. For this reason The Blood Center is offering to special donor award.
More surgical procedures are scheduled over the holidays and at the same time donations drop. So when January rolls around, blood centers Nationwide are faced with critically low shortages.
When a stable blood supply is not maintained daily, for many, it means delays and risk to patient care and for healthcare providers, it means making difficult decisions.
Annually, Children’s Hospital treats approximately 1,200 kids battling various stages of cancer and 503 kids battling Sickle Cell Anemia. All of whom can need a transfusion immediately when a crisis occurs.
You can make a difference. Become a blood donor today! Together with The Blood Center, Children's Hospital New Orleans hosts monthly blood drives to help make a positive impact for children and adults who need blood products here at Children's Hospital, and at other hospitals across our city.
In 2023, through The Blood Center's monthly blood drives at Children's Hospital, we collected 485 blood donations. Help us have another successful year of giving blood to save lives.
