Treatment & Evaluation of Eye Disorders

The Pediatric Eye Care Department at Children’s Hospital New Orleans provides evaluation, diagnosis, and advanced treatment of a wide range of common and rare eye and vision disorders in infants, children, and adolescents. Our pediatric eye specialists proudly complete more than 7,000 patient visits each year using the latest available diagnostic testing and imaging. Our team of providers offers both medical and surgical treatment options for eye disorders that affect children.

We offer special diagnostic services, such as orthoptic evaluations, ophthalmic echography, electroretinogram, photography and visual field testing for both inpatients and outpatients. The department also has expertise in double vision and eye muscle disorders for adults and older individuals.

Our team of pediatric eye specialists offer comprehensive special treatment procedures including microscopic eye surgery, lens implantation, Botox injection, frontalis suspension eyelid surgery, Crawford tube tear duct surgery, adjustable sutures and amblyopia treatment.

Our team of providers

Pediatric ophthalmologist – A pediatric ophthalmologists is a medical doctor and surgeon who is especially trained to diagnose, treat, and manage childhood eye disorders.

Pediatric optometrist – A pediatric optometrist is a doctor of optometry who is especially trained to treat children with certain conditions that can affect the vision and eyes of children. At Children’s Hospital New Orleans, our pediatric optometrist offers the evaluation and diagnosis of visual developmental disorders through routine vision tests and develops a treatment plan to include prescribing eyeglasses and contact lenses. In addition, our pediatric optometrist treats common eye injuries in children.

Pediatric orthoptist – A pediatric orthoptist is a healthcare provider within the ophthalmic field who is especially trained in the evaluation and treatment of eye movement problems and binocular vision. Our team of orthoptists works with the ophthalmologist to determine the best treatment plan and prepare the patients for surgical correction if needed.
