The critical care programs at Children’s Hospital consist of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PCU). The units are designed to provide care to the most critically ill children.
Our state-of-the-art CICU is designed to meet the unique needs of children and adults with Congenital Heart Disease, whose levels of care range from basic to highly critical. Located on the first floor of the hospital, the 8,193 square-foot CICU features 20 patient beds (10 in private rooms) that are outfitted with cutting-edge technology to provide the best available cardiac care in Louisiana and the Gulf South.
Our NICU is a 36-bed critical care unit for newborns that provides care for issues ranging from prematurity and neonatal respiratory distress to infections and birth defects. The 11,000 square-foot NICU is located on the fifth floor of the hospital’s west tower. The Children’s Hospital NICU allows the sickest babies to be treated at the highest level of care.
When children face life-threatening injuries and illnesses, they can count on Children’s Hospital to meet their critical care needs in a state-of-the-art PICU. Located on the top floor of the hospital’s west tower, the 9,456-square-foot PICU features 18 private patient rooms, outfitted with cutting-edge technology that assists the staff of pediatric intensivists, critical care nurses and critical care respiratory therapists in providing the best available critical care for the children of New Orleans, Louisiana, and the Gulf South.
