Laser Therapy Clinic

Laser Therapy for Children

The Dermatology Department at Children’s Hospital New Orleans offers laser therapy as an effective treatment option for children with vascular birthmarks and scars. Pulsed dye laser therapy targets the tiny blood vessels within the skin to reduce the appearance of the lesion. In order to achieve optimal results, most individuals require a series of treatments. The number of treatments needed varies for each individual.

Laser therapy is a minimally invasive treatment that can be performed in the office setting. When needed, topical anesthetic cream is used to reduce associated discomfort. Depending on the size, location, and extent of the skin lesion as well as the child's age, the procedure may be performed under anesthesia. Parents are informed and involved in every step of the process.

Laser therapy is typically well tolerated with minimal discomfort after the procedure. Patients and their caregivers will be instructed on post operative management recommendations following the treatment.
