The Pediatric Thyroid Center at Children’s New Orleans cares for all pediatric patients with thyroid nodules, cysts, masses, and cancer in a monthly multidisciplinary clinic. This clinic is held the third Wednesday morning of the month at Children's Hospital Main Campus. This multidisciplinary clinic includes specialists from Pediatric Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ENT), Pediatric Endocrinology, and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
Thyroid Cancer is the most common pediatric endocrine tumor, with about
5% of all thyroid cancers occurring in children and adolescents. Thyroid
cancer typically presents as a painless neck mass without any other symptoms.
When treated appropriately, it carries an excellent prognosis with long-term
survival rates over 95%.
