Safe Sedation Services for Kids & Adolescents

Children’s Hospital has the only exclusive Pediatric Anesthesiology Department in Louisiana. Our services are available 24 hours a day for anesthetic care during emergency surgery, for assistance in the intensive care units, and during emergency situations such as cardiopulmonary arrest anywhere in Children’s Hospital or its clinics.

The Anesthesiology Department provides general anesthesia, cardiovascular anesthesia, regional anesthesia, as well as sedation services for our patients undergoing surgery or diagnostic studies. Not all forms of sedation put patients completely asleep. Our team can explain how each type of anesthesia works and what your child should experience when sedated.

Departments we work with

​The department provides services in the operating rooms, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Procedure Room, Special Procedures Room, and the Cardiac and Pediatric Intensive Care Units. Services are also provided for patients having diagnostic imaging including MRI, CT and META scans, as well as for PET scans done at the Touro Imaging Center. Occasionally, the Anesthesiology Department will provide services for patients at other hospitals in the LCMC Health system.

Anesthetic Services encompass pre-anesthetic evaluation and preparation, including consultations with surgeons and appropriate medical subspecialists; intra-operative anesthetic and postanesthetic care, including airway management, respiratory care and pain management; and other forms of physiologic support.
